I currently have Electric Beach FH3 and some Cyrus CLS70. Ollie’s thread got me thinking, and obviously I have found the Sansui SP-300. Others of interest that I have come across are: Triangle Lyrr 222 KEF 105.2 (but have concerns about the bass drivers sagging). Brand new, boxed Castle Severn 2 SE.
Am I mad contemplating any of the above?

I was thinking a set of speakers with good dynamics and bass slam could be good as another option to what I have.

If you want a speaker that has dynamics and slam yet still be sophisticated, then audition a pair of Quadral speakers. I have the Chromium Style 6 floorstanders and they are truly amazing in every way.

the KEFs are very good and I suspect the Triangles would be worth a go too although I've never heard them. Castle Speakers are okay but they're a bit over-rated IMO.

I'm guessing the Kefs will be quite different to all of them having a big driver rather than multiple small drivers. Maybe try and hear a pair of B&W 801's

The KEF's maybe a bit on the clinical side, although they got the mid driver well sorted compared to the older B110. Sadly, they look to have the decoupled bass driver and this will have an effect, whatever KEF's motives were in doing it. HFN did as test a few years back on the performance of original 105's forty years on and the results weren't good, so be warned about now antique relics...
Modern slimmer boxes (especially continental sourced ones) tend to trade bass heft and real power for high frequencies that scream DEEEEEETAIL at you. Whether this is fatiguing or impressive depends on tastes and the room itself. Maybe this type of speaker suits UK rooms better than 'BBC Boomers' that need free space (couple of feet from rear and side walls minimum), so some listening is called for here.
Castle Severn's in all forms were 'nice' £500 speakers with a rather dry balance not that good at reproducing venue acoustics. We preferred the less 'nice' but supremely funky Rega Jura mk1's back then, which just got to the heart and soul of the music coming through. Half a Wilco sponge sideways in the Jura's port sorted the bass out and careful gear and cable match sorted the tweeter. Bi amping was very impressive too... Second issue Jura's were leaner even for us and less successful I remember but ,may work better tight to a wall.
By all accounts, Spendor A series models can sound very good and not excessive in the bass and I'm a huge fan of the Rega RX3 which is more solidly constructed than the previous models, which were still quite good.

If they are up for £1k in France, advertise them at half and someone will grab them if you don't want them.

No way are those Sansui's worth a grand. I find it hard to believe they have some sort of French cult following that has jacked prices up that high. You can't give them away in the UK.

Hahaha, but we are flat earth in the UK. Maybe not worth £1k but can't see you losing on them IF the market is there to resell them.

The €450 are still available, but at the other end of France.

About 4 hours (420 km) each way, so a tank of fuel + tolls.

I remember reading an item in Hi Fi News where the writer commented on Castle Sevens' (Original polyamide? bass/mid driver) unique (in his opinion) ability to present an uncanny sense of acoustic. Way beyond the plane of the speakers. The smaller Isis were quite well regarded. Always fancied some Avon's. Never read "attack" in connection with Sevens, but here's one person's account of the S2s:

When people go on about how wonderful their speakers are, I always think 'compared to what?' You need to have heard a lot of speakers to have any kind of yardstick. Most Hi-Fi fans simply haven't had enough experience.

Maybe they have...
Never wise to generalise.

Most Hi-Fi fans simply haven't had enough experience. I don't know. You'll always get a few exceptions I suppose, but most of the regulars on forums are also regulars at bake-offs and shows. So most will have heard something that's notably better than what they have. But maybe they can't afford it, or the wife wouldn't have it, or it wouldn't work in their room. Or it's a DIY design and they are cack-handed like me or just haven't the spare time to be knocking up speakers in the garage.

Those SP-300 are huge! A few pictures here - link
I think they are too big for my room. The Severn 2 SE are probably best suited, but probably are not as good as my current speakers.

The need to be hard up against a wall so they would slot into pretty much any room I'd have thought. You can see the JBL /Lansing 'heritage'! £500 for them still seems a bit much to me though.

Trouble is, when you see a port that big, you know the bass ain't likely to go deep. It's probably tuned for efficiency and speed.
