I’d imagine as a second hand buy, it must be one of the most shrewd purchases out there. It’s goimg to last a lifetime, never go out of fashion and likely increase in value as it becomes vintage. In the meantime you get to enjoy having a work of art in your home that sounds amazing.

Nice system Roy, I'm always drawn to tt's even though 75% of my listening at the moment is digital. I could not help but notice you have a cd transport and a cd player. I know of someone who purchased a CXC and a Marantz player, most possibly the one you have, and preferred the Marantz as a transport, this going into a Metrum dac.

Thanks for sharing the photos of your system, Roy. I enjoyed them.
A friend bought his slate plinth'd 401 over to my place a few months back. I thought it sounded sublime - so much so that I snapped up a Lenco 88 that I came across shortly after. Not quite the Rolls Royce that is the Garrard, but still has that unmistakable and highly addictive drive (pun intended).
My friend also has a pair of vintage Tannoys - 15" drivers but I can't remember the model name.

I'm only running a Nagaoka MP110 MM cartridge in the 401 at the moment in the Jelco arm, I've considered 'upgrading' to an MC cart (my phono stage is adjustable) but when I'm playing a decent condition lp I don't reckon the sound could be improved much? Got a record cleaning machine last xmas & that's been a better all round purchase. Yes, my vote also goes to the record cleaning machine. I got an Okki Nokki a couple of years back and can't now imagine why I went so long without one. I have a £1500 Transfiguration mc on my WTL Versalex. It is impressively refined, but I get just as much enjoyment from the £200 Denon 103 on my Lenco.

No burglar is gonna get very far with your system unless they are a champion weightlifter I love those Luxmans. Close to perfect aesthetically.

Lol.
Never heard a Luxman I didn't think was excellent. You've got a great system there, not a bit of tat in sight.

It does look tidier Roy, very nice system and one that I would love to hear. I don't believe I've ever listened to big Tannoy's.

Looks absolutely splendid
Love the look of the Luxman. Meters are so cool, though I accept mainly pointless lol.
Love it all, well done!

Roy
Have you ever tried the Ardens on stands? Get the centres up to ear level. It made a huge improvement to my Cheviots. I’ve just got MDF bases so nothing fancy needed

Very minor update, I’ve moved on the Quad phono stage, the one in the Luxman is just as good if not better? Plus the silver bits & black bits are separated, looks a little tidier. Congrats on having a turntable and speakers that make a Luxman look diddy!!
