I decided to not opt for the Monitor Audio R952MD Speakers. Just not in the mood for having floor-standers Want to keep things simple.
Instead I collected a pair of Celestion A Compact Speakers. It's hard to believe these tiny boxes retailed for well over £500 in their prime years. The build quality is solid, the grills feels lovely and heavy.
They sound very good. Musical and smooth, with plenty enough detail and spice. If these were headphones, very similar to HD600/650.
Would like to try the larger A1.

I had to look them up and when I did, I was unable to recognise them. I did give up on hifi fir a good few years so these were a “blind spot” for me.

I thought they were exceptional speakers.

Nice little speakers these Celestions. Wish I'd discovered them years earlier.

Smaller speakers can be very involving. My only experience of Celestion was the “3”. Always fancied trying SL600 or 700 but it never happened.

I used a pair of SL600si Celestions alongside my Tannoys for a few years. The Celestions were pretty good, but I did find that copper dome a little lacking in ultimate resolution. I fact, I'd rate the KEF Corelli's I had until recently as a better compact speaker, they were lovely.

I'm liking these little Celestions. They have a nice 'tone' and can easily fill my medium sized garden cabin room. Really must put the A1 model down on the list.
There's something rather special about quality book-shelf speakers. Just can't explain it. Most book-shelf's (I find) are more musical sounding than some floor-standers. Don't get me wrong I have heard some great floor-standing speakers.
Perhaps its my ears/mind playing tricks on me but I'm sticking to my opinion.

FWIW I agree. Conventional floorstanders usually don’t do it for me.

Yep multi driver speakers usually suck. I reckon Shane has a good ear. If he rates these Celestions then they must be good.

If something sounds good enough to me, then I'm happy. You can come here tomorrow and hear my system and walk out feeling upset! S.

But you need a big box with big drivers for proper bass man (sealed enclosure).

I've had all these speakers and I can honestly say that 600 and 700 are in a different league. Corelli suffers from bextrene quack and is coloured - top end is so inferior it's unbelievable. I don't understand Walpurgis' love of Corelli - technically and crucially listening to this speaker it's ridiculously inferior to both 600 and 700 series. I have to seriously doubt anyone who states otherwise.

Perhaps the Corelli's were a good match for Geoffs system.

He's done this over on AOS a few times. Seems to like taking a contrary view and has singled me out for his attentions. Really doesn't like me mentioning KEF Corellis for some reason. Some people do this sort of antagonistic thing because it's the only time anybody notices their otherwise insignificant input.

You will always run into someone on the forum, packed full of pessimistic opinions. I just treat most of them like idiots.
