Might have a chance to pick a pair up locally. They have the gold metal tweeters. Robin Marshall was involved from what I've read.
What is their sound signature like?

If they're better than the 852MD they should be superb.

They are a Robin Marshall design. Not that it means as much as you might think, best designer in the world can't do much within a tight budget. If it has to sell at say a 500 quid price point then you want cost of materials to be down at around fifty quid. Okay so you have some economies of scale but even so. You can't really cheat with loudspeakers, they need to be well-engineered to sound good. And that costs. Stereophile quite liked them though www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/188mon/index.html

As far as I'm aware, that was just a cosmetic change to the existing tweeter.

Gold domes did sound different. A bit less lively. I preferred the non gold but it wasn’t a deal breaker. Sorry if I keep making mad typos. Damaged ulnar nerve often plays up and affects sequencing. I often don’t realise because it feels ok, but the results show otherwise!

I usually get to them quickly, but sometimes I don’t check and just assume I’ve typed what I intended, it’s usually gibberish, not helped by the iPad autocorrect.

Might buy them next week. Will post some pics if I get them. Hope they can handle number 11 on the dial?

Spent a nice Sunday afternoon listening to the R952MD at the chaps place. They have a lovely balanced sound and full rich deep bass. Certainly no need for any stupid subwoofer in medium sized rooms. Very easy to drive. The Storm 2 drove the MA's fine. But they sound better on his Naim NAP 250. The combo was pretty good. I can happily live with a 250!
The chap had a look at inside the Storm 2 and couldn't see anything wrong, looked alight. But we still did hear some light buzz coming through the speakers. Plus the transformer also buzzes. The noise through the speakers, is identical to the sound coming from the transformer.
This amp could possibly be fussy with mains quality, but we don't truly know. Build quality isn't very good. The case is very light and thin. No doubt the transformer buzz is vibrating the walls of the case.
We also wired the Storm 2 to his SBL's. Sadly this resulted in a thin sound with harsh treble. I can see why people say SBL's needs a 250 minimum.

Sounds like ten noisy transformer is the cause then. As you say, it’s impossible to know if it will be quiet on some mains, Are you planning on keeping it or sending it back?
Glad you liked the 250. They can be compelling in the right.system.

Might keep the Storm for a little while. It's an OK amp. But not ideal for speakers that are hard to drive.
The 250 is very good. I can see myself living with one as an endgame amp. It's bloody heavy and well made! Bass goes down deep!

Not greatly different, just Bigger, badder and bolder IMO. Worth grabbing a listen sometime to see if it does it for you. That said, I have still loved every 250 I’ve owned,

The 250 sounded good through those particular MA speakers. Is that because they have a warm sound?

I’d say it was a “bold” sounding amp, rather than a bright sounding one. It’s not massively different tonally to Exposure.

I reckon a Quad 909 plus a passive pre-amp would work very nicely through the R952's. Probably a bit overkill though powerwise.
I've heard the R852 driven with a 306/Tisbury combo and it sounded really good.

Even un-serviced examples seem a bit overpriced. The 135's you heard, did they have olive case? S.
