I am not entering here blazing as the last pair have done.
Are they famous or something?
I am pretty much into all sorts or music, have a pretty simple CD-based setup. Hoping to learn - and glad to help if I can. I like chatting too.
Chris
HI Chris.
Glad to have another new member in what is a tiny fledgling forum. I’m trying to make a better job of this one after my last one was a bun fight, so,I’m keeping the focus on the gear and the enjoyment of the hobby.
We are all essentially “new” here so feel free to chip in and not feel like a newbie. FWIW I’m using a basic CD system myself now. I used to be addicted to buying stuff and I still have to check myself and I still slip into old habits. But then I just can’t be bothered with any new purchases when they do arrive these days, so it seems pointless.
Have you had your setup for a while, or is it pretty recent? Are you looking to stick or twist?
Well, even though I have a relatively budget system, I have been switching things around quite a bit over the last couple of years - and glad of it. I learned a lot about how components sit together - at least I think I did. I discovered the Little Dot valve preamp (MKIV) and that made me realise it was cheap transistor amps that were stopping me from enjoying things. It is quite cheap and - yes, Chinese, but so far so good.
I am not going to change much again yet - it can get to be an obsession - although I have a a DC blocker arriving this week (haha)!!
Out of interest, which forum did you run? I have been on AoS and left quickly and another one with a vendetta against AoS. Well, you probably know a lot of them. Not really felt at home in a forum yet.
I live a pretty simplistic life (living alone helps!). What I like to do is wind down after about 9PM - with music on - and catch up with people with similar interests. I don't do the normal Social Media stuff.
Forgive my ignorance - are you a manufacturer or promoter of anything? Or is it just for fun? Or both?

The forum was short lived, contentious and a big mess. It was imaginatively called The Audio Forum. Put together in 30 mins, lasted about a fortnight and upset pretty much everybody. Worst of all was that anyone could post whatever they liked without joining and the only way I could find to stop this was to make the whole forum visible only to members.
It got pretty heavily trolled and I didn’t have a clue how to cope. The people who had joined to talk about hifi left and didn’t return. I tried getting others to help and also to give it away. In the end someone asked to take it over but by then it was dead. I only made this forum to see if I could do a better job (not hard).
I’m just a punter and semi reformed box swapper of many years. No tech knowledge to speak of. I can solder but that’s about as far as my skills go.
I’ve been on most forums but never really found my “Goldilocks”forum. I am still a member of PFM, Wigwam amd TAS though. For me, there were never enough threads about the sort of stuff I like though. These days it’s all computer audio whereas used turntables, CD players, Amps and speakers from the 80s 90s and even noughties are more my thing,
At least I like the colour scheme Seriously we just need a few more members and it should be able to sustain itself. The last forum had way more members, but a lot of them were put off by the “Wild West” nature of the thing. Maybe in time some will have a look in here as long as I can keep it on track.
Keep up the good work, Andrew. I like this site. Somewhere I belong!
S.
Yep, we are like a pair of bookends! Both like to revisit things we have liked and both lose interest in equal manner if we don’t get it in time and our minds go onto the next thing.
At least now you are getting activity as there is something to talk about, disagreement, controversy, without wanting to say something all you do is flannel like at TAS (yawn). There must be a yin and a yang or you might as well just go off for a nap.
Well its certainly been stimulating enough to keep me away from napping, it’s 2:25am here
I have gradually come to realise the problem with 'bun fight' forums. The owners have no children, so a) have too much time on their hands, b) have no sense of proportion, so hifi 'issues' loom much larger than they would for someone who has stuff like school, colleges and the summer holidays to worry about, and c) have far too much money to fritter away on endless box-swapping.

I agree with that. I'd add "ego" to that list if this were my thread - hey! It IS my thread!!!
It is and I agree. Ego plays a big part in lots of hifi and I include myself in that.
Edit: this goddam new iPad seems to have different predictive text and it’s driving me nuts. Every time I type “and” it changes it to Andy. So if you see references to Andy everywhere just take it that I mean “and”. Grrrr
