Lol that bad? I've got several mate, you can never have enough really sharp knives. Want me to post one out to you? There's a really high viaduct in Durham...save the postage. It's all computer speak, being explained by people who only speak computer. Remapping the remote isn't exactly essential, so I might just step back from the edge if I give it a few days...

If the manual is on line I'll take a look at the weekend and see if I can make any sense of it but right now my brain is fried from work.

If the manual is on line I'll take a look at the weekend and see if I can make any sense of it but right now my brain is fried from work. It will be a classic case of middle aged man with no patience, not reading manual correctly. I'll be back tomorrow, with my tail between my legs, admitting that it might be quite straightforward, after all...

So....erm, yes, I found the screen to remap the remote keys.
I doubt I could find it again, though.
When I'm feeling really brave I'll set up dedicated eq settings for different speakers and headphones.
Going to have a bit of a lie down, first...
UPDATE - the RME forum admin sent me some very helpful videos.

Hours of fun. You tried the DSP yet?

Hours of fun. You tried the DSP yet? I've been playing with the five-band fully-parametric equalisation...get me, eh? The loudness compensation system is neat, too. All with lots of configuration options. I'm still a little bit afraid of doing something by accident that I can't work out how to put back to 'normal'. The videos should help...

Maybe the RME is not for me, more of a plug in and play man. Keep up the good work Savvy.

Picked up some nearly free stands for the Cube1s from a good friend - just cost me a tenner to buy some M8 spikes for them. I needed a new set as the Torlyte ones I have are a bit too narrow for the Cubes and I was worried that my hound could knock the Cubes off them when he has a 'mad moment' of over-excitement (this is usually when I get home from the pub with a pack of pork scratchings!). They are made by Atacama, very heavy, wide footprint and 70cm tall - the extra height is useful with the Cube shape. Sound-wise, they are a bit coloured compared to the Torlyte stands - a hint of ringing, so I might try half filling the columns (will give even more stability, too). Any recommendations for fillings? Atacama make metal 'bytes', Russ Andrews recommends sawdust to damp the ringing...

Fill the stands with decorative stone chips from Homebase. There's a variety, but slate should do. That's what I've used, it works.

Cat litter is a good option. Suspect the 'ringing' is imaginary though. See metal stands - think 'ringing' - that's all it takes.
Are they the exact same height as the previous stands? Even a small difference in height will make an audible change that will smother all other effects. One of the reasons there is so much bollox talked about speaker stands.

Boxes on stalks - ugh!
My wife surprised me though. I scoffed at the pics of the NVA speaker stands RD posted just before his final illness and she actually quite liked the look of them - cough.. Those you've pictured savvy, would be in the recycling centre darned quick...

Cat litter would be cost effective, but I'm going to avoid anything that might soak up moisture - when the stands are not in use they'll be stored in a unheated garage / workshop. I'll probably go with Jeff's suggestion of the decorative pebbles from B&Q. I agree that height is a big influence - these are 10cms taller than the Torlyte stands, so quite a significant difference. I do perceive ringing, at the moment, though. Psychological? Maybe. I listened to an academic recently on Radio 4 who demonstrated how different background music could 'change' the taste of food. I'll likely add some oak cones to the top plate - that might help ease my concern, real or otherwise.

They have a certain 'brutal' charm. They suit the speakers well, not so much the room...

I might’ve looked to fit wider bases to the torlyte ones. I’d planned to do that with my oak ones but I like the looks and I can’t fault the sound I'd have to totally reconfigure them - life's too short I meant fitting to the bottom of the existing ones. I’d thought of getting either two oak bases or two steel plates and bonding them to the bottom of existing baseplates, to widen the footprint and lower the centre of gravity. If I’d used oak, it would’ve looked pretty neat, with a stepped plinth effect.

I gave up on the idea when I saw how nice they look. It wasn’t going to involve any work. The oak bases would’ve been ordered to size and I have a Sh#t load of different glues. The speaker stand maker quoted £42 for ones that would’ve matched and been ready to glue.

I've never had good results with gels / sorbothane / rubber etc - everything seems to go a bit splashy and muddy. I've found that oak cones give better focus. I thought I had loads hanging round but apparently not. Before I order some, anyone tried the RDC cones?

Never tried them and I thought they were really expensive until I looked them up. I’m sure some of the TAS crowd used them.
