You've never seen one of these before (unless you saw it posted by me elsewhere). There were as far as I know only three brought into the UK for evaluation by the importer. I bought one and god knows what happened to the others. Of the many I've tried, it's the best SUT I've heard and I compared it to my Luxman AD8000/8020 which is rated by some as one of the finest. I sold the Luxman and kept this. Have you ever been tempted to have a peek inside, Geoff?

There was some pretty delicate and vulnerable looking wiring, so I just put the cover back on. Best left alone I decided.

I'd expect so, but the supplied DC plug may not fit, There are loads of different sizes for those DC connectors, which is why I chose a power adaptor that comes with a selection. I can't see the point in spending Ā£55 anyway, when the power supply I suggested works perfectly for less than a tenner and comes with a plug that fits the amp (I notice it's about Ā£1.50 dearer today, Chinese prices go up and down like a yoyo).

Thanks Geoff, I understand not paying Ā£50 for a LPSU, but from what I have read on other forums and personal experience they are better than switched mode PS's

And none of them seem to be able to put out more than a couple of watts before they quite obviously start distorting. I know from experience that obvious ripping distortion doesn't seem to bother a lot of people (I've even had a couple of people try to tell me that the distortion is not the amp clipping but is actually on the recording!), but it bothers me.
Did you not look at the bench test then? Yes I did. Into a dummy 8 ohm load he says you've got 18 watts max if you don't want it to overheat. Also distortion was 0.2% at 20 Hz and 0.5% in the HF - that's not hi-fidelity. And no speaker is a steady 4 ohm or 8 ohm load, it's the swings in impedance over the frequency spectrum that are challenging for an amp and he doesn't even test for that. Tannoys are not an easy load so I'm surprised it sounds as good as you are saying it does. Have you tried it with anything demanding music-wise?

Did you not look at the bench test then? Tannoys are not an easy load I keep hearing this. It's nonsense. I've driven Tannoys with all sorts of amps with no bother at all. Even my 8 watt Arcana monos had no problems controlling them and turned in a nice tight performance.

Plus they are very sensitive so watts isn't the issue.

God bless Geoff.........
Seriously though, each to their own.
It's what makes this hobby of ours so bloody mind numbingly bonkers.
There is no right or wrong.

There is no right or wrong. True. But some would have it otherwise.

I love speaker drive units. Here's a pair of beautiful vintage (circa 1970) 14" x 9" EMI 14a/770 series bass/mid units from my large collection. Not sure quite which one these are 'cos the surrounds are grey. The 14a/770n has black ones and these are different.
