Quite a strange article, really. It seemed more like an advert for the author's previous reviews.
Class D has been around for decades. I guess the main news is that, for quite a few years now, it's been venturing more widely upmarket.
Even the author of the article didn't seem convinced by it - despite the stated practical difficulties of his room-heating Class A amp he's keeping it in specific preference to Class D.

It is an interesting article. Think it neatly sums up the feeling I got at Jason’s when I heard the benefits of the synergy between a Purify amp and Jason’s semi active Vaders. And the price! Magnificent presentation of music at half the cost. Now there’s a game changer.

Lower cost kit sounding better than more expensive stuff is not a new thing for me! There's very little correlation between cost and sound quality in hifi electronics ime and imo.
Apart from anything else, of relevance to class D amps is that large heatsinks and the associated heavy casework are expensive.

People have a hard time letting go of the expensive stuff, even when bettered by cheaper, less well known kit. Class D is unfashionable in HiFi, but I say use that to your advantage and buy whilst it's still relatively cheap!

Oli >>People have a hard time letting go if the expensive stuff<<
That's very true. I used to suffer from that myself. But more experience of a wide range of gear, age, and possibly hearing loss 😂 have changed my mind.

Thanks for posting article .interesting as he compares to the pass xa25
Been using class d for about 15 years on and off and it is good .but not found any yet that beat class a or class ab
However when i sold my msb 200 watt class ab i replaced it with 2 icepower monoblocks that cost peanuts (rrp on the msb would be 30k now) they were delightful in imaging and warmth .stayed in tannoy system for quite a while but replaced by class a
Tried class d several times with impulse taus but just too dynamic and a bit wearing after a while .they were way better with class ab amp .wont even let class d anywhere near verity speakers

Personally been using PWM amps for over 25 years now, I am fortunate enough to have access to very many exclusively decent Class a/b units as well, nothing I have listened has made me change my mind including Pilium (which is very good indeed) but huge and still not as insightful.
However like all things in audio not all switchers are the same, and many are just uber clean, detailed, powerful and low noise floor ideal audiophile fodder, there are some however that really do take you straight to the heart of the music.

Yeah Tony, you can’t just leave that. We need to know which ones take you to the heart of the music? Not just leave it hangin?!! lol

That's really freaky. I was hovering over the idea of a Elipson A2700 today! Looked interesting and Audioaffair have them with £400 off. Still not cheap though. Your honourable mention has given more credence to this idea.

I picked these up on eBay today: The plan is to replace the Sparkos with 1612's and fit two Hypex SMPS600....If I can find some. Everywhere seems to be sold out.

The smps are very weak on their hypex units the 600 require 80+ Vdc, I change out a good dozen a year.
Have just literally thrown out the old boards this week during my early spring clean pooh

Sparks for 1612s an eminently sensible choice, and you'll get cash back
