Currently I am retired which leaves me on a fixed budget which does not leave me much free money for buying and trying new things . As I also only have one passive system not much wiggle room for amplifiers either . Currently and for quite some time my Quad ESL 57 have been powered by an NVA S300 and this just works . I was lucky enough to be allowed a trial of M600 mono and they were better in most areas but the cost was not something at this time I could cover so they went back . Now quite a few months ago I scratched a long time itch of getting an Aurex Power amp used on its own driving the Quads it was very close to the NVA even though it is only a 40 watt amp .I was very happy as it offers a different flavour to the NVA without being coloured in any way . Well one of the features of this amp is it has an option to be switched to a balanced mono unit offering 80 watt output . A very nice looking one came up on eBay and this morning I found I had won the auction at £227 including postage . This is more in a range I can afford and now I have the drama and tension of waiting for it to be delivered . So something different to play with in the new year and a possible alternative to the NVA . Will probably more everyone to death with my ramblings after they are in place but hey no that's what you would expect .

These days I'm a firm believer that expensive amplification is simply not necessary for full musical enjoyment.
Sure, you have to choose wisely as there is a lot of cr#p out there. But choose something that suits you in the low £100s and it's job done imo.
Looking forward to your thoughts on the Aurex amps, single and doubled up.

I have to say and Jason saw the original one the day I picked up a pair of his speakers to take to Liverpool they are very heavy for their quite small size and they a very well made with everything from solid aluminium even the heat sinks . That is the one issue with original one it has a very bent heat sink fin but knowing aluminium even with gentle heat it is quite likely to break rather than going back in shape so as it has no effect on the sound I have left it . The one bought from e-bay looks superb and has its original box and user manual which is pretty good after all this time . Starting to get the childish , are we there yet feeling when I know that tomorrow is the first day it can be posted . Fingers crossed that it arrives before Saturday as that is the day I can make all the shifts and changes to get things in place .

Yes and it is in superb condition I was all geared up for doing everything Saturday as I need to strip out two systems and swap over the racks . However late Friday night Linda was told that she was not in work on Saturday so that scuppered my plans and I need the time without Linda in the house to get this done . So real patience needed now and wait for my chance .
