Any good books you're read lately ? I'm an avid reader, I always have a book on the go. Currently reading "Kippling's - The strange ride of Morrowbie Jukes" I bought loads of books on paper and Kindle a few years ago. I read about a dozen and just ran out of steam. Now I canβt get back into it. My brain has gone lazy, I reckon. Studying tended to spoil reading for me because I skim-read everything, just looking for information to support my arguments. I donβt seem to be able to break the habit and actually read a paragraph, let alone a book. Short chapters seem to help, but I still struggle to maintain attention.

I'm also an avid reader, and usually have two or three books on the go. At the moment I'm mostly reading vintage whodunnits from the 1920s/30s because it's been too hot to read anything more demanding. I've also just re-read 'Austerlitz' by W G Sebald, an astonishing book, translated from German.

I'm currently in the latter stages of 'The Pigeon Tunnel' by John Le Carre...moving on to 'A Very British Coup' by Chris Mullin (first read it in 1982).

I read 'The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym' many, many years ago. I must re-read it soon. I've just finished 'The Mystery of the Blue Train' by Agatha Christie, an easy-to-read whodunnit. Now I've started on 'The History of Byzantium' by the oddly-named Cyril Mango.

Un-Fukin-Believable.
Quite superb, and by her own admission, her best.

Censorship of historical novels piss me right off. Its like pretending the holocaust never happened. πππ.....π Depends which holocaust you refer to. Historically, there have been many. The word seems to have been appropriated to mean the Jewish Holocaust, which in itself is inaccurate, as many others suffered, not just Jews. The word Holocaust has probably been in use for a thousand years.

I haven't bought new books for ages, I just wait for what I want to turn up in the charity shops for 50p. They always do eventually. I also have a habit of buying big batches of paperbacks without really checking what they are, just as long as they are not romantic novels. I read in bed each night and start books without looking at the covers, so potentially I can find myself reading just about anything.

Gosh wish I could wait......
I think nothing of spending Β£1000 on what is imho a classic or indeed a future classic.
Now.
I have hardback signed Mint 1st editions that would cost more than a Brand new Ford Focus.
Investment.........Yes.

I have a few (maybe ten) signed first editions. Generally speaking I'm more interested in the content than in the format, so, unless the print is too small or the book is actually falling to pieces, I'm as happy with a 50p charity shop purchase as with a mint first edition hardback.
I couldn't do what Walpurgis does, and read on spec though. I have to know what, broadly speaking, I'm going to be reading about.
