I had a swear filler in place after my last forum. I thought I’d disabled all of it. I’ve re-saved it with no words in so it should be disabled now Great! F#ck!!!! S.

What we can't swear on here? That's a bit much. I set a swear filter early days after the last forum. I’d disabled it, but it hadn’t saved properly. Should be off now. I still think Feck is funnier. The humourous swear filter on the last forum was probably the only bit I miss. For those who missed it, I substituted silly words for swear words. Some of the rants were funny.

Much as I love the clarity and midband of the Control 1's, I couldn't use them as main speakers, but they're perfect for testing newly made amps with...
The Control 1's replaced a set of Diamond IV's, which instead of rolling the bass out gently, go so far and then die below as I remember B&W CM1's doing. The tinsel for high frequencies irritated me too and even the musical charms of an NVA amp couldn't fix it sadly. Pal Alex's Diamond 7.2's are really nice and seamless and only cost him a tenner, but the fullsome tones are too Harbeth like for me right now to even think about it - and that's why I didn't look at later Diamond mmodels cheap at Richer Sounds as it appears they bump the mid bass up a little.

I liked the tinseley top in the Diamond IV. It's how I thought a hi-fi speaker should sound at the time.

Going back a bit, I bought a new pair of Diamond 210 to bring abroad, largely because they were small, white and pretty. They weren’t terrible but I didn’t think them good enough to keep and they never made the journey. I’d imagine getting shot of the crossover and stuffing, as wee as rewirimg would have done them a favour. Did they have a mid-bass boost? I’m not really sure to be honest. I tend to like that anyway so may not have noticed. I think I bought that defective white P1 about the same time, or maybe a tad later. It had a malformed platter or sub platter, so it looked drunk when spinning. I do love white kit.

Wasn't me who was asked, but I've told the tale of a Krell FPB300 driving £70 Denon SCM7's (eleven grand amp, will that do?). I was scared I'd melt them, but they sounded better than they had any right to. The Krell macca now has did a stirling job driving my IMF's too. Thanks for that, I was thinking we might need a pair for tv duties already having a Yamaha amp, but the way we have set up the main system I don't think they will be needed now.

The Mission made SCM 30 and slightly larger SCM 50 were ok I remember as long as you didn't pump loads of bass into them. Soundbars for TV use are the way to go and I believe some can be keyed to the TV volume control. it's been my experience that as long as there's a picture to keep our brans occupied, the sound doesn't have to be the very best unless you want a full AV experience.I'm told around 70% of our brains pocessing is on visuals and sound comes a poor second best - try listening to a TV with picture off. Even B&O sets were weedy sounding when used that way with sound and no picture as a part of their early multi-room efforts - and they did put a lot into their TV speaker designs I remember.

My problem is, when watching tv I do find it difficult to hear all the dialogue, my old ears and the actors are most probably at fault, but better speakers than on the tv does help. We can use the Yamaha amp, but it does entail changing the speaker cables into our main speakers.

I usuallly run TVs through an amp and speakers. Sometimes it’s my main system, sometimes it’s a cheaper amp and speakers, depending on location. Out here, dialogue is affected by reverb/reflection, which makes it harder to hear. I used to have the Tma3 and Minstrels on TV duties but I sold the Myst and packed away the Minstrels. I’ll get the wretched little “ankle biters” back to Britain one day and get shot of them.
