ive just taken the plunge into full range land! i pick them up on saturday,im expecting a different sound to my yamaha's but from reading on the web the coral's are highly regarded, and being a cabinet maker i can always at some point knock up the bigger cabs for them, these are in their orignal cabs,a bit rare in the uk i gather. here's a stock pic of the drivers, drool drool! more pics to follow. cheers for the info geoff!

Highly rated widebanders those. Are you going to run just those or give them something to run into? A nice 15" high efficiency bass driver maybe?

Sh#t!! You got some!!! That wouldn't have been cheap. Gorgeous aren't they? They sound stunning in the correct constant width BLH like this: Supertweeter is optional, but not really needed. Should have kept mine.

And I have the original cabinet plans from when I built mine. You'll need those skills of yours, I can assure you.

They deserve the horns. The sheer dynamics and punch are incredible in those cabinets. Forget any Lowthers you may have heard, these are in a different league (less coloured too).

Blimey! They'll do some damage. I like the old school grilles myself. Cabs look to be in A1 condition. Great find.

Blimey! They'll do some damage. 40 watts @ 102db/w. Work it out! Indeed! I've got a tidy little SECA valve amp here that would be ideal for them. In pretty much any size of room. I'd want to add a tweeter but that's no big deal to do. Cabs look to be 3 quarter inch thick too. And made with proper wood from trees, not that mdf shite.

Same as those on the net I believe. If I can find them, you can have them though and any brochures I might have. Still got a pair of mint Coral supertweeters knocking about too.

There was me thinking you'd just purchased the drivers. Those cabs do look in good condition, though I assume you will be thinking of building bigger cabs.

I like big multi-ways as a rule. Although I also like big 2 way speakers with the compression drivers like Tannoys and JBL. Not keen on horn -loaded bass, always sounds a bit 'hollow' to me.

I love the look of those. Right up my street.
What's are they called Jamie, the speaker itself? Or are they just coral speakers?

hi oli, they are coral beta 10s which were sold as just drivers or you could buy 3 types of cabinets from coral to stick them in. ive had a nose inside and drivers just shout quality, the cabinets however are your typical 70's chipboard veneer.
the drivers are in a cloth mesh bag hence the discoloured look, with the mesh removed they look sweet as!
quality terminals,
and just for comparison with the yamaha ns1000's
and how do they sound? well i was a little worried about the top end,i shouldn't have been as thats very good,in fact if anything they lack deep bass, whats there is very tight and well defined but i can now see simons comment about adding a sub and i can also appreciate why people make blh cabs for them. the soundstage they create is very big,it extends well past the speakers width, something im not used to with the yamahas.
over all though im very pleased indeed with the sound,i dont know how out of use they have been so they may improve with use,ive also turned the drivers 180 degrees.

Nice that they hand off to similar sized bass drivers. I find speakers like that tend to successful.

thats an abr si, i had a good 6 hour listening session yesterday and they really are lovely sounding drivers,as geoff has pointed out they do need some bass lift, apart from that all is good.they are very musical and have an endearing quality to them that makes you want to keep on listening. ive also noticed i need 3 steps less on the volume too any concerns i had are gone and for now my ns1000's are in the bedroom,i never thought id say that!

Does that mean a larger bass unit and building a new cab?
