They deserve a goodbye from me. Very good sounding speakers. The image is razor sharp, without making your ears bleed. Mids are clean. Good controlled tight bass.
Walpurgis, thanks for giving me exposure to those lovely Tannoy's before I moved out of London.

Looks like it's goodbye to these. Just been sold on ebay. Had them since 2013. They sound fabulous, among the very top sounding Tannoys I've ever heard and that's all the classics near enough. Very nice examples. What is your mainstay these days?

Currently using 2nd system, sounding nice with the little Ruark Swordsman Plus speakers, but I have another pair of Tannoys and there's Missions as well, plus enough parts to build about ten pairs of speakers. There may be a horn project soon.

A friend of mine has just bought some Eatons, know what he said? ..... "sound like your Pioneers" lmao.

I need to scale everything down and my Tannoy Ascots will take up less space, while sounding very similar (by the time I've finished modifying them). There's no way Eatons sound like your Pioneers. Your mate needs his ears 'adjusted'!

There's a growing tendency for folk to want to 'upgrade' their Tannoys and a lot of what I see being done is just folly in my view.

My Ardens came with new crossovers which, for whatever reason, had never been fitted. I toyed with the idea of trying them out but they sound fine & as they say 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'.

I'm not saying upgrades/modifications should be avoided, but they have to have some sort of logic behind them and done because they are needed, not just because somebody else says 'it's a good idea'. I'd definitely suggest that anything done should be reversible. I've been tinkering with Tannoys since 1971 and have a fair idea of what works and what won't.

6.5 inch Eagle extended range units and Eagle horn tweeters. Eagle actually used Coral drivers and these are very nice.

Tonight's project. A pair of Mission 762 speakers with completely rotted foam cone surrounds. Got some rubber (not foam) surrounds that don't fit due to the originals having a very narrow roll so I've trimmed about 4mm off the cone all round to make them fit. It'll work and I'll have these up and running soon. Don't care about originality on these as long as they work. Finally got these done. Sounding very decent actually. I seem to have mislaid two driver mounting screws, I'll rummage for replacements.

Not heard those Geoff, i think they were a late 80's model?
Mission speakers i do like out of owning them in the past: '717'/'727'/'770' All early white Baffle boards designs..The first version of the '730' These were a 4 Way floorstander with Celestion tweeters.. The very first version of the silver Hammertone finish Baffle boards '737' The one with the Audax tweeter & Pink/White speckled cabinet backs.

Mission made some good speakers. I have fond memories of the 751, 752, 753 etc.

Is one of the LEDs a clipping indicator?

Is one of the LEDs a clipping indicator? Don't know. I'm unlikely to find out either. it has 110 wpc, I have reasonably sensitive speakers and don't listen at loony levels these days. The manual may say though.

I'll be trying it later. Was busy yesterday. This is silly. An amp costing less than forty quid shouldn't sound this good. It's punchy and very transparent and clean. I'll listen more before drawing proper conclusions though. Will look for suitable rubber feet and check out the fan slowing mod.
