Well technology has progressed to the point that society can now (2000 years latter) kill people with guns and bombs as well as swords and spears...!!! That's Progress. We have progressed to the point where we don't actually need bombs and bullets to kill many thousands of people each year, as cars, alcohol, tobacco and sugar are doing a decent job already on their own. |

If people didn't die from something the world would get awfully crowded awfully fast. And sugar, alcohol and baccy have been killing people for tens of thousands of years. Or rather people kill themselves with them.
The obsession with trying to have everyone live as long as possible is a curious modern trend though.
