A little progress, but hopefully more to show for my efforts tomorrow SMPS fixed in place, all the regs changed, spades removed and CCC links in place to solder to for the speaker outputs. IDC sockets removed for the input wires to be soldered directly into the PCB and the back panel is modded to accept the binding posts and WBT sockets: Aiming for it to be functional this week (before Friday)

Nearly there: The output wire to the speaker binding posts is 1mm² solid core CCC, with 24awg stranded CCC from the inputs to the buffer. Three wires due to being wired in pseudo-balanced config, as recommended by BP. Would have been better if I had some shielded CC, but I haven't. All that's left to do is make the ribbon cable, assemble the case fully, and then power it up. Opamps are OPA1656 btw. Chart for solid core current carrying capability: Opamps in situ:

Yeah, nice looking build that is. Love the orange braid on the cables. Good aren't they, the Purifi amps. Borrowed with a view to purchase?

It was pointed out to me that as of yet, i hadn't offered any conclusion to this thread or build. Well, let me start by saying that this build in it's simplest form could be done by a trained money. The SMPS and connections are soooo simple that i am confident that anyone out there could build themself a monster amplifier for very reasonable money. Reworking PCBs is a tricky afair most of the time, but the VTV have generously sized through holes so it was really easy to clear them out. One word of caution is to watch the heat. Even with my "semi-pro" soldering skills i managed to remove a pad from the speaker spades when removing them. Not an issue, as the holes are through hole plated, so just soldered via the top...but, be careful. Sonically in this setup, it's a marvellous amplifier. I read all sorts of bollocks about Class D, and i've written some of it in the past. The truth is if you have TOP quality surrounding kit and a room it can breathe in, Class D isn't the devil. The Purifi astonishes with transparency, clarity and timing whilst never losing touch of the music's connective tissue. Music remains a highly detailed organism that was created by people, rather than thin/lean strands of hyper detail screaming into your ears. For me, this amplifier tops EVERY amplifier I have heard, in every regard, but not until i got top quality speakers and had the room issues dealt with. That amp list doesn't encompass every amp on earth BTW, but it is definitely above those i have. NEXT: 1ET9040

Interesting that you went with VTV buffer input... and not their valve buffer input. What led you to choose VTV; any relevant reviews? I'd think you might have been attracted to the valve buffer. I noticed Thomas & Stereo just did a review on it.
Have you tried or heard others? I'd heard some good about the Neurochrome one. Just curious.
Oh, and what Opamp have you settled on?

So, the VTV buffer was selected due to the fact they came with the used purifi boards i bought lol However, the changeable opamp situation sold them to me initially, then when i realised i could go to town on them, they became No.1 choice. I wanted to use OPA1656, which is what Bruno recommends. I owned a Purifi with the Purifi buffer but comparisons are flawed due to the system changing dramatically. The Neurochrome buffer isn't my choice as they use the LM4XXX opamp, which is like whacking a ford cortina engine in F1 car IMO (and others of higher standing in the scientific world) Vs the 1612 0r 1656. The 1612 in the Puriifi isn't a bad choice, but the 1656 is like a magic bullet. Its not comparable IMO. Interestingly, the new flagship 9040 has the 1656 as standard. Seems Bruno and i agree Valve buffer.... Well, i didn't want to reduce the measurements of the amplifier by orders of magnitude by putting valves in the path.

Cheers for the update and nice to read why you went for the VTV buffer board over the others. Iam slowly gathering parts for my own build and appreciate your links and help Oliver.

It's always great to hear of someone else taking on a build. Bruce has a few meters of PC-Triple C for sale which would be a great idea for the connection to the speaker posts.

Nice and neat build Oliver - glad the sound quality is up there with the best you have heard so far.
