Met up at Andy's yesterday for another sesh and had a great time.

His set up is now quite different to the one he had when I first visited some years back.

This set up has some great Firebottle mono's, Bigbottle BB3 and a lovely looking DCB1 preamp at the heart of it, not to mention one of the ZYX Microlines and of course, sounds emanating, courtesy of his Tannoy's build - He's done a great job on those.

Anyway, we got to the sofa facing the speakers and tune after tune flowed out.

In between me gassing my head off, I'm like that, if something becomes apparent to me then I have to say, fortunately Andy was pretty much in agreement and aware of what I was saying and pointing out during evaluation.

Without getting into any hyperbole, Andy's system plays the music in a way that I like to hear music flow from a system, there is a analogue rightness to it and I love that.

Bass was not mad subby bass, or overly deep but naturally textured and tuneful, I remarked that you could hear and differentiate every note, in fact all instruments had a natural texture and timbre.

I've heard other set ups with a lot more transparency but I've never wanted that sound as my own preference. This sound was more to my liking in terms of analogue as I know it, that master tape aspect where there might be a bit of hash or something in there sometimes but it in no way detracts from the rightness of the way the music is presented. It genuinely reminded me of the sound I'm accustom to from my own set up.

One thing that also most definitely stood out, is that this rig can boogie, it captures every twist, turn, stop start, accent and syncopation of each musical performance - the performance as a whole and each individual musicians line.

We both remarked and complimented the way each and every space in the music stood out, clearly, which was the foundation of the perfect, overt and accurate way in which this system portrayed the exact rhythmic movement and flow of each composition. Again, this was very apparent and had to be said. Pace, rhythm and timing was A1, to the point that it was so mad obvious and apparent, that I expressed to Andy that if I didn't know his tt and had my eyes closed, if asked if dd or belt drive playing, I'd have said dd, no doubt and that was testimony of how much his system was locked in on the PRAT - big time !

Another excellent sesh, so much good music - the best reggae and reggae fusions, African jazz - more learning and experience had, not to mention we both took away a few titles from each others collection to add to our own - happy days - you bet !
