I'll be trying it later. Was busy yesterday. This is silly. An amp costing less than forty quid shouldn't sound this good. It's punchy and very transparent and clean. I'll listen more before drawing proper conclusions though. Will look for suitable rubber feet and check out the fan slowing mod. Geoff, We listened to a limited few tracks and I was gobsmacked. Alan and I both wrote it off before we heard it. Listened to a track called Nublado and it was a real moment that we both just sat there with our Jaws on the floor. Honestly, I just couldn't believe how good it was.

Imagine how good they will be with some special fuses! Damn, you read my mind. I have an £80 mains fuse on the way and a £475 mains lead. Just the job for a £39 amp..............Not!

It actually reiminds me of my mate's Creek Destiny 2 and that is a stunningly good amp.

Alan tells me that via his KIN preamp and with the controls bypassed on his Proart, it's even better.
Food for thought but in its current format, it's definitely a class act

You got a link to this amp on Zamacon Geoff? Seller seems to have sold out. Might be others elsewhere. Just Google proart amplifier and see what comes up.

Have you had a listen to it yet then Geoff? Yes. Being serious, if you listened to it blind and were told it cost over a grand, you'd believe it!

So it's better than the chip amp then?

Grant uses 2 of these in monoblock formation . Can you just use one as an integrated ?
It's been a wee while since I heard these but IIRC I was a bit distracted with the fans ??

Yes you can use just one. Absolutely silent when we tried Alan's BUT I'm not sure if we had it in long enough to engage the fan but it could've been on from the start and didn't hear it.

So it's better than the chip amp then? Undoubtably better from what I heard of both. I own a chip amp and would swap it, no problem.

So it's better than the chip amp then? Not done a comparison, but I'd say so. The sound is remarkably good.

Thanks Oli . I think he has his on all day , however he doesn't play music at high levels and I think his speakers are pretty efficient so the amps aren't being driven hard . That's what concerned me about the fans . I suppose that's what put me off giving the Proarts a decent listen .

All I need now, is some decent speakers to try the Proart out with. The Missions and Ruarks sound good, but the Tannoy Ascots are awaiting work and I want to build something a little 'special' as well.

According to Alan, 180 ohm resistor in series with the fan. I'll see if I can find a wirewound one with a few watts handling.

On their way from China. More drivers! 6.5" full range units. Looks like a quarter wave horn system is the way to go this time round.

I shall alter the cabinet design slightly to suit my needs.
This driver has a 51.4Hz resonance, but other drivers may be tried too, so a variable port may be included so I can tune the system resonance accordingly to hopefully fall in the driver roll-off region. This reduces bass humps and extends bottom end output.
If I can get away with say a 40Hz system resonance, there should be output below this, albeit rolling off.

No, the ten inch Tannoy drivers from my Ascots are going in these. The full range units will be played with afterwards.
